Binance one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world is back in the news and for this time for very good reasons. It is donating $1 million in West Japan to the victims affected by heavy rains. Not only this, it also requested other cryptocurrency enthusiasts to show their humble side by donating as much as they can to the victims of West Japan.
On July 7th, West Japan witnessed unprecedented rainfall that resulted in floods and landslides at several places. As per the local news reports, more than 50 people lost their lives in a space of two days and more than a dozen people are still missing. The PM Shinzo Abe ordered immediate the people to evacuation the remaining two million people from the disaster-struck area.
Following this news and seeing the people suffering, Binance posted a blog on 8th July that is on Sunday pledging to donate USD 1 million dollars to all those affected in the Japan flood disaster. Binance has also asked its users to donate for this cause by sending ETH or ERC-20 tokens.
The official blog by binance read, “To help out the victims in West Japan that were affected by the heavy rains on 7th July 2018, Binance is donating $1,000,000 USD and calling for other cryptocurrency friends and partners to join us in this noble cause and the relief initiative.”
Changpeng Zhao, CEO, and Founder of Binance, also posted a tweet sharing information about their noble cause and also urging other people from the cryptocurrency community to come forward and help those affected. As reported by local news, so far, the Ethereum wallet made for this cause has received about $90,000 worth of ETH and $1.05 Million worth of ERC-20. This is not the first time that crypto community has come together to donate a sum for some special cause. Earlier, Ripple had also donated $29 million in XRP to DonorsChoose to improve the education system.
